globalgearbox is the blog of Michael Hammer and other contributors. It is intended as a place to share thoughts about global and more local issues that affect people’s lives as the political events of 2016 and longer standing trends of hardening in international relations and deepening social and political divisions across societies are beginning to have an impact. It is also a place where some of the innumerable acts of kindness and solidarity, which make societies humane, can be portrayed and set against the big thumps of global and national political decision-making. The perspectives offered are personal but we hope they are of value when thinking about wider patterns and consequences of politics.
